This test involves placing electrodes on the scalp to monitor brain activity. The test often involves monitoring over 25-30 minute period.
When would I need this test?
EEG’s are used to differentiate between different causes of seizures, such as epilepsy, psychological seizures, fainting and migraines triggered seizures. The EEG may also be used to assess brain death in comatose patients. The EEG is occasionally used to distinguish between psychological and physical causes of altered brain function (encephalopathy).
